Grand Bay man allegedly set another man on fire as he helped suspect’s ex get her things

A Grand Bay man is charged with attempted murder after investigators say he threw gasoline on another man and set him on fire, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a residence on Dick Turner Road about 4:15 p.m. Sunday after a report of a man being set on fire.

Witnesses told deputies the victim and a female came to remove some belongings from the residence of the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Dennis Alen Keener.

The female reportedly wasn’t comfortable meeting with Keener alone, so she asked another man to accompany her.

Keener and the other man began to argue, according to the MCSO, and at some point Kenner threw an accelerant, believed to be gasoline, on the victim and set him on fire.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with first-degree burns to his face, torso and upper body. The injuries were described by the sheriff’s office Tuesday as “life-threatening.”

Keener was taken into custody and transported to Mobile Metro Jail, where he remained as of Tuesday afternoon under $50,000 bond.
